[W5SFA] REMINDER: Special Event Station is tomorrow, Saturday Nov. 4

Just a reminder that the club's Special Event Station is tomorrow at the San
Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, on FM 1458 two miles north of I-10
exit 723.  We'll be commemorating the 194th anniversary of the founding of
Austin's Colony in Texas in 1823, as well as Austin's 224th birthday which
was on Nov. 2.

 

Skip and I plan to arrive onsite with the Lark around 8 am to set up.  We
expect to be on the air by 9 am, and the event goes until 4 pm.  Operations
will be on the 20m and 40m bands, and we'll have a 600 watt amplifier to
make sure our signal gets out.  As before, we'll be operating as W5SFA for
the event.  By having more people,  we can trade places frequently for
operating and logging.

 

Plan to stop by, and stay as long as you can.  We'll have hot dogs, drinks,
etc as well as a portable shelter set up and a few chairs - but you might
want to bring your own chairs too.  We may be able to get a tour of the new
visitor center at some point.

 

For new hams, this is a great opportunity to see some HF operating and get
on the air.  Even if you have a Technician class license, you can still
legally operate on HF since we will have higher class license holders
present.  We'll show you everything you need to know (and really, it's not
that difficult!)

11/4/2017 - Father of Texas Celebration, this Saturday!!
The San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site is in an exciting state of
transition!
As we do each year, the site will host our annual Father of Texas
celebration this first Saturday in November. The event will take place on
the grounds of the state historic site and will include hands-on activities
and the following programs:
. 11:00 a.m. - Recent Archeology at San Felipe de Austin SHS
. Noon - Museum Construction Update 
(projected grand opening - April 2018)
. 2:00 - Austin's Lasting Legacy
. 3:00 - Military History Related to San Felipe de Austin
. 4:00 - Museum Construction Update*
(projected grand opening - April 2018)
*The last museum construction update will take place at the new facility
which is nearing completion.
In addition, members of the W5SFA Radio Club will be on-hand during the day,
broadcasting to other amateur radio operators. 
Stop in to check on the club's activities when you are at the site!
