John Kruk is there a way to put the GPS location of the DR-2X repeater into the repeater? I have searched the manual and the IMRS manual with no luck.

d.. Dan White How will the calling digital radios know where the repeater is? When in GM mode.Edit or delete this

e.. William Hitchcock The repeaters do not do GM mode. They only pass the GM beacons of the users.Hide or report this

h.. Justin Reed Dan, there isn't a place to put the coordinates into the repeater. The Fusion system doesn't know or care where the repeater is. Contrary to what the marketing people say, the DR-1X and DR-2X were never intended by the design and engineering team to be used as a home base station.Hide or report this

i.. William Hitchcock Justin, Have you had any feedback with the use of base station users using GM turned on 24/7? I have had complaints from repeater users who see the continuing periodic beacons and consider it to be a problem. We discourage its use with repeaters except for special events.Hide or report this

a.. Justin Reed GM mode generates a ton of unnecessary transmissions over the air, and the more people use it, the more congested it is. Think of the days of 1200 baud AX.25 packet. You get more than a handful of users on and nobody can talk.

GM mode is the biggest joke and wasted effort I've ever seen, and I certainly wouldn't use it across a repeater. Simplex between a small group of people? Maybe... but definitely not through a repeater.1Hide or report this

c.. Chris Petersen I think GM mode has its place, especially during special events on simplex. I've had to shut repeaters down because someone leaves it running overnight and I can't contact them. Many of the radios will beacon every 15 seconds. You can use it when hiking, etc., to make sure you are still in range of everyone else. I've used it to check coverage on my repeater. But I don't think it is useful except if you are sitting in front of the radio and you need to know the status of other stations.Hide or report this

j.. William Hitchcock To clarify, we have had several FT991 owners, set up to monitor the local repeater 24/7 , then they enable GM. because they see it in the manual and wish to try it out.Hide or report this

b.. William Hitchcock I fully agree, but Yaesu just made a presentation in their Y.E.S. series on GM monitoring, Text Messaging, and Picture Messaging. They did not discuss concerns of these transmissions over repeaters. I just wanted to highlight some of the cautions with repeaters.Hide or report this
