Folks,

For those who couldn't make the meeting last Wednesday, we have scheduled a
club build night for Wednesday, May 31. We will be moving the venue to
Brenham to a conference room in Kruse Village, which Jack K5FRT is arranging
for us. Dinner that evening will be in Brenham, location TBA.

The kit we've selected for build night is a QRP Labs Ultimate 3S
transmitter. It does WSPR (weak signal propogation reporter), and supports
several other digital modes including JT9 and JT65. The output for the base
kit is 250 mW, which can easily reach anywhere in the U.S. and further.
The build is not difficult, and the price for the kit is $33. More
information is available at https://www.qrp-labs.com/ultimate3/u3s.html
This page has build instructions and photos as well as an ordering link.
The kit is expandable, with a lot of additional options you can order, such
as GPS, a relay board for band switching, case, etc. But the base kit at
$33 is really all you need to make a functioning transmitter, and you can
upgrade it in the future if you wish.

Each club member is responsible for procuring their own kit, but you may
want to band together with other club members to save on shipping costs.
When you order your kit, you will need to select a band for the filter - I
suggest 20m or 40m due to current band conditions, but you can select just
about any ham band you want. You can also order additional filters (they
are cheap, less than $5) which you can swap out to change bands.

We have several experienced kit builders in the club, so if you have never
built a kit, wound a toroid, or don't know how to solder, don't worry - we
will show you how. We will have soldering irons, solder and wire cutters
available as well.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Roger N5RWK
