I looked it up, and it looks like I have to take the tests over again.  I
won't be able to do that. I'm pretty disappointed. I thought the testers
were supposed to turn in the test completed documents to the FCC, but
apparently that was never done.  If I was supposed to do this, I didn't
know that. I have the completed General test form dated 7/26/2017. The
three examiners are
Bruce Mitchell, Roger Kee, and Ron Beauregard.

Is there not any way to prove I passed this test without taking the test
over again?

Brad,

I took a look at your license on QRZ.com and sure enough it expired on 11-29-2021. However, you were registered as a General licensee - but note that upgrading your license does not change (or extend) your renewal date - you get 10 years from the initial issue (e.g. when you got your Tech license).

You should have received an email communication informing you that your license is up for renewal.

There is a two-year grace period after your license expires where you can renew, but it looks like you are just beyond that. So I will refer you to this page:

From my read of the page, it appears that after the two year grace period your license is cancelled. You can reinstate and get credit for your General ticket, but unfortunately it looks like you'll need to retake the Technician exam and upon passing you'll be issued a new call sign. The left side of that ARRL web page has a lot of good information as well.

The FCC is now charging a $35 fee for both new licenses and renewals, which you have to pay online. The FCC also requires you to get an FRN number as they have moved much of the licensing process to be electronic.

test in 2017? Sadly, I won't be able to retake the Technician, much less
the General. Can not the club tell the FCC that I passed that test in 2017?
That that license should still be in effect?

I guess I'm screwed then.  I thought that the expiration date reset when I
passed the General.  Taking those tests again with my old brain seem
monumental now.  I'll try to appeal to the FCC, but if that doesn't work,
I'm out.

Brad,

Your passing of the General test was properly submitted by the club's examiners and it was recorded by the FCC on 8/1/2017. You can verify this yourself at https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp Just put in your callsign near the top of the page, then click on your callsign when it's found. You'll see that you are listed as a General class licensee.

As I noted earlier, upgrading your license does not extend your renewal date. It's your responsibility to keep track of and renew your license when it nears expiration. It's a shame you didn't notice a few months ago, as you could have renewed before the FCC cancelled your license. Normally you should get notified by email that it's up for renewal a few months before it expires, perhaps you missed it or something else happened.

But in any case, the only resolution you have is to retake the Technician test, which upon passing will get you a new license and callsign. My understanding is that you will granted at the General level and not be required to retake the General test, since you get credit for already passing it back in 2017.

I'll help in any way I can, but the bottom line is that you'll need to retake the Technician test to get reinstated. Since you passed it before, it shouldn't be that difficult.

When I looked up my license on FCC site, it just said expired.  It did not
list my rating. I have no proof of my general license and that's why I
thought it had not been registered. I never received the paper license. Nor
did I get any notice of my license expiring.  As I've said, the HAM hobby
as slid off into low priority because of other problems that needed solving
first. I know I should have checked on it sooner, but honestly though I had
10 years starting from 2017, not 2011.  I'm wondering if I have to take
both tests over again, or if the General will reinstate if I take the Tech
again. But I expect I will have to retake both tests. Do you know?

This link shows that the FCC database lists that you held a General license.?From what I have read it seems to me that proof of your general license and passing the 35 word Technician test gets your General license back. Every Amateur new has to pay the $35 fee.Paper licenses are no longer issued. OK, sorry for being a pain. I just feel gyped at the license expiration not
resetting at passing the general.  I'll pull my technician book out and see
if I can re-learn all that stuff. Memorization is not easy for me anymore.

too clearly between 9 PM and 9 AM? :)

Ok, I pulled down my first 35 question book and started looking it over.
I'll look at the practice test too.  I will try to be ready as soon as
possible to get my license or a new one reinstated.

Re-newing the license wasn't on my radar because I thought the expiration
updated to the General test date. I was wrong of course, but the Radio
Hobby dropped down to a low level compared to other issues in my life. I
thought I had until 2027.  Yes, it is too bad.  Bruce asked me if I was
going to let my licence go a few months ago, but here again, I thought I
had to 2027, and he didn't explain further.  I'm not blaming him, but I had
other irons in the fire.

Once you get so you?re routinely passing the practice exams, you should be ready to go.  BTW, make sure you?re using one of those sites Joe listed, as they make some minor changes to the test every 3 years.  The web sites will be up to date.

 

You?ll need to register on the FCC site and get an FRN number if you don?t already have one ? they made that a requirement a few years back.  Here?s the link:  https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do 

 

Give us a few weeks warning as to when you want to test so we can get a team together.

I took a look at your license on QRZ.com and sure enough it expired on 11-29-2021. I recently scrapped about 40 800 meg Quantars.    I found out that the
power supplies were worth money, just slide them out of the tray.

The rest all went to a metal recycler

Greetings to all. Well the sun is back shining and somewhat warmer. A great time to get back out with charged up batteries, your favorite portable radio and some wire to hang in the air. February 8th at the Margaret Chesley Park in Bellville. Just off the courthouse square. Start between 8-9 AM. As usual we will have lunch somewhere afterwards.

If you don't want to drag out the equipment, come on by anyway. Eyeball QSO's are always welcome.

My memorization doesn't work so well anymore. Passing this Technical test
again may be more difficult. I sure thought the license re-set to the
General test date.  Most licenses that I have had set to the last test
date. Just coming out of a month of bronchitis.
