The balloon reported for 70 minutes, almost reaching Hempstead at an altitude over 10,000 feet. The balloon then went quiet. However, this morning it reported in at 8:10 am from grid square FM29, up in New Jersey. It is currently in grid square FM39gc (off the coast of New Jersey), altitude 23,600 feet and speed of 100 mph. Ironically, it passed very close to Lakehurst, NJ - site of the 1937 Hindenburg disaster. Hopefully that's not an omen. You can track the balloon's progress at the QRP Labs web site: http://qrp-labs.com/tracking.html Look about halfway down the page for N5RWK-Stat and click the link, it will take you to a map and telemetry page. This has been a collaborative effort between Ray WA5IWB, Gary KF5ZRT, Joe KA8WEP, Dan W5AOV and others, and it seems we have finally licked most of the technical problems. One of the problems we had was overfilling the balloons - at altitude the pressure differential caused the balloon to fail. This balloon only had 5 grams of lift, using less hydrogen. We are still planning to launch one or two balloons tomorrow at 8 am, conditions permitting. I will send an update later today. 73, Roger Sent with [Proton Mail](https://proton.me/) secure email. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Today I moved the XLX979 server from my house to the Bellville tower shack. Due to the new location, its IP address has changed, so any existing connections from hotspots were lost. The easiest fix to this is to simply leave your hotspot on overnight, and the new IP address will be automatically updated and it will reconnect. On the other hand, if you want an immediate fix, simply log into your hotspot and do an update. This will refresh the IP address and it will connect to the server again. I have also decommissioned the Wires-X service from the repeater, as XLX pretty much took its place. It also freed up room for the XLX equipment. Let me know if any questions/problems. 73, Roger N5RWK Sent with [Proton Mail](https://proton.me/) secure email. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Ray, Joe KA8WEP, Nathalie N5ATH and N5RWK braved the cold. Clear skies at launch with a pretty good breeze from the northwest to southeast, but it made it off the ground. We had a post-launch breakfast at the Texas Star Cafe. Ray's payload was 58 grams and was a homebrew transmitter assembled from parts. Being on the heavy side, he used a combination of two balloons in series (one tethered on top of the other). It took a while to come alive, the first signal reports on wsprnet.org did not show up until 10:24 am! Ray thinks that the transmitter had drifted out of band due to the cold, or the sun had not reached enough a high enough angle for the solar panels. It's reporting on wsprnet.org every 4 minutes with a 6-character grid square. You can follow the track at [http://lu7aa.org.ar/WSPR.ASP?banda=20m&other=wa5iwb/d&balloonid=?lot=&repito=&detail=&SSID=00](http://lu7aa.org.ar/WSPR.ASP?banda=20m&other=wa5iwb/d&balloonid=×lot=&repito=&detail=&SSID=00) Zoom up on the map to see the track. It is currently in the Gulf of Mexico south of Louisiana heading east, in grid square EL38kl. The N5RWK balloon last reported at 20:20 UTC yesterday, just south of Nova Scotia in grid square FN82. It hasn't been heard from since, so it may have gone down. It looks like its max altitude was around 25,000 ft. 73, Roger Sent with [Proton Mail](https://proton.me/) secure email. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The balloon flew east into Cajun country and Mississippi then into S. Carolina before going to sleep. Interesting at just after 10 PM last night the tracker was heard by seven stations for one transmit and went back to sleep. This morning it is in the Atlantic off the coast of Florida moving southeast. Hopefully, we will get some traveling miles on this one. Looking for fair winds and no storms or missiles. Icarus would be proud. You can track balloon on wspernet and LU7aa sites KF5ZRT/A call sign.
