Folks,

If you own a Yaesu FTM100 or FTM400 radio this may be of interest.

A few days ago Yaesu announced new firmware for the FTM400 and FTM100
radios. The new firmware will allow you to connect the radio to a computer
and internet and talk to a Wires-X room. A Wires-X room is kind of like a
D-Star reflector and allows you to talk to others through the internet.
You'll need an SCU-20 cable (which shipped with the rig) and the Wires-X
software installed on your computer. Possibly some other tidbits depending
on your model.

Previously, you needed a $120 HRI-200 interface to connect to a Wires-X room
on the internet. The new firmware allows you to connect directly.

Ultimately, this could provide us with the capability for someone out of
town to participate in the club net, as well as Wires-X nets out on the
internet. We're still a ways from being able to do this, but it's nice to
see Yaesu enhancing the capabilities of System Fusion with older model
radios.

If you want more details, see this Yaesu Youtube video (warning: high
buzzword content!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh53gaC28hw

You can download the updated firmware and software from the Yaesu web site
along with additional information. Just look under your particular model
radio.

73,
