[W5SFA] W5SFA Monthly Meeting Wednesday Nite + Field Day at the Courthouse, June 27-28

Our monthly meeting is tomorrow night at Yani's.  6pm dinner, 7 pm meeting as usual.  Field Day will be the primary topic as we will finalize plans for this weekend at the court house.

 

For Field Day, it looks like we will have Dan, Cameron, Ray and myself on Saturday afternoon, and Ron and I on Sunday morning.  Everyone is welcome, even if you can only come out for a limited time.  Come and go as your schedule permits.  We will have Cam's Icom IC-738, my KX3 + 50 watt amp, and the courthouse station's Yaesu FT-2000 to operate with.  I'll bring a laptop as well for logging and rig control.  For logging I have the N3FJP Field Day software.

 

For antennas, I will bring my MFJ "big ear" portable antenna, with a 16-foot pole that it mounts on, so we should be able to rig it on the roof for the event.  I also have a 31-foot fiberglass pole that will work as a support for a long-wire antenna.

I really thought we would be able to participate some this year. The venue outside the courthouse sounds like a good plan. However a colleague and friend in Kingsville, Tx  is retiring and having a reception on the 27th.  We need to attend. Have fun, score high, and give hamming a good name!

Field Day is fast approaching, with less than two weeks away.  I need to know who is participating so we can decide when we will be operating, who is bringing what, etc.  This will be a great opportunity to get familiar with the courthouse station's Yaesu FT-2000 rig.  Besides HF, we can also operate on VHF and UHF, so even handheld transceivers will work.

 

Field Day officially starts at 1pm local time on Saturday, June 27 and ends on Sunday, June 28 at 4 pm.  But, we do not need to operate during the entire time.  I would suggest we set up around 11 - 11:30 on Saturday and run until interest wanes.

 

So arrive and depart as your schedule permits, please let me know the approximate times you plan to be around, and what equipment you are bringing. We can work out the final details and schedule at our monthly meeting at Yani's next Wednesday.

 

Could someone volunteer to take pictures?  Also, if someone could help organize food (maybe hot dogs?) and drinks that would be great.
