Folks,
At the August meeting I'll demonstrate some Arduino devices - this is a
small, inexpensive microcontroller that costs about $3 off eBay. There are
lots of ham radio applications for Arduino, and there are at least two
recent books published on the subject:
. Arduino for Ham Radio
<http://www.amazon.com/Arduino-Ham-Radio-Electronics-Microcontroller/dp/1625
950160/> (Glen Popiel) - $26.96 on Amazon
. Arduino Projects for Amateur Radio
<http://www.amazon.com/Arduino-Projects-Amateur-Radio-Purdum/dp/0071834052>
(Parkum & Kidder) - $16.84 on Amazon
They are programmed via USB using open-source (free) software for Windows or
Linux, and there are tons of different interfacing modules available. You
can even build a low-powered transceiver out of these parts. The best part
is you don't need to be a programmer or a BSEE to use them, just some basic
skills that many of us hams already have. This link shows some of the
projects from Popiel's book:

Also, on the news today is this story about a hacker who has built a device
that unlocks cars and opens garages.

While this is not good news from a security standpoint, the hacker used
Arduino components to build his device.

Roger
